Why Study At UWA?
The University of Western
Australia was founded in 1911 as the first university in
Perth, Western Australia. It remains the State's premier
university and is the only Western Australian establishment to
belong to the Group of
Eight, a coalition of Australia's leading universities.
We provide a learning environment of the highest standards,
and our science degrees are recognised internationally.
In terms of teaching expertise, we have one of the highest
proportions of doctorate staff amongst all universities in
Australia. This means our students get to study science from
lecturers who are at the forefront of their fields.
Intellectual excellence and critical thinking is at the heart
of all our undergraduate
and postgraduate
degrees. We place great emphasis on providing a nurturing
environment and a rewarding study experience in science. Our
earth science
courses are designed to equip students with skills and
experiences leading to professional, managerial or academic
careers
in many areas in industry, commerce or government. Many of our
graduates are now world leaders in their fields.
Science and Agriculture were founding faculties of UWA. In
2002, the University restructure resulted in the formation of two
science faculties - the Faculty of Life and Physical
Sciences, and the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural
Sciences - to expand on the teaching and research
capabilities in science at UWA. This has allowed us to offer
greater choices as well as more specialised training in almost
all science studies from agriculture to biotechnology and
zoology.
The School of Earth and Geographical Sciences is part of the
Faculty of Natural and
Agricultural Sciences. Our major disciplines are Geology and the Geosciences, Geography and Soil Science.
We look forward to sharing a more involved science experience
with you.
